General Surgery

General Surgery deals with the surgical management of a broad spectrum of illnesses that affect different body systems. General surgeons are trained to perform operations on the abdomen, digestive tract, endocrine glands and also on skin along with its associated soft tissues. They handle different types of surgeries from small routine procedures to more intricate ones, often working in both elective and emergency settings.

Types of Procedures in General Surgery

    • Approach: Can be done via open surgery or laparoscopic techniques.
  2. Cholecystectomy:
    • Procedure: Removal of the gallbladder, often due to gallstones or cholecystitis (inflammation of the gallbladder).
    • Approach: Typically performed laparoscopically, but open surgery may be required in certain cases.
  3. Hernia Repair:
    • Procedure: Correction of a hernia, where an organ or tissue protrudes through a weak spot in the abdominal wall. Common types include inguinal hernia (groyne) and umbilical hernia.
    • Approach: Can be done via open surgery or laparoscopic techniques, often using mesh to reinforce the area.

  5. Gastrectomy:
    • Procedure: Removal of part or all of the stomach, often used to treat stomach cancer, severe ulcers, or obesity (in bariatric procedures).
    • Approach: Can be performed through open surgery or laparoscopic methods.
  6. Bariatric Surgery:
    • Procedure: Includes various surgical options for weight loss, such as gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, and adjustable gastric banding (Lap-Band).

    • Approach: Can be done via open surgery, sometimes with immediate reconstruction options.
  10. Laparoscopic Surgery:
    • Procedure: Minimally invasive surgery performed through small incisions using a camera (laparoscope) and specialised instruments. It is used for various procedures including hernia repair, gallbladder removal, and appendectomy. Skin and Soft
  11. Tissue Surgery:
